Solute concentration and water content were measured at a depth to 170 cm in an unsaturated field soil. Soil water movement and solute transport in the local scale were studied and the spatial variability of the soil water content and concentration were discussed. As compared with the water content, the concentration distribution shows a large variation. The immobile water content is about 24 to 39 percent of the total water content in the experiment. The flux velocity is described with a log normal distribution function. The mean and variance of the concentration are calculated using the convection equation, the convection-dispersion equation with the stochastic velocity, and the classical convection-dispersion equation.
