The remedy was selected in accordance with the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act of 1980 (CERCLA), as amended by the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA) of 1986, and to the extent practicable, the National Oil and Hazardous Substances Pollution Contingency Plan (NCP). The Navy, Marine Corps, and the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) jointly selected the remedy for Site 12, with the concurrence of the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources (NCDENR). The Navy provides funding for site cleanups at MCAS Cherry Point.
