Antecedents

The term Network Centric Warfare (NCW) appeared in the military publicatons in the USA at the end of 20th century, after the Gulf war, during the war in the former Yugoslavia. Network centric warfare is the embodiment of an Information Age transformation of a modern defence capabilities. It involves a new way of thinking about how the Armed Forces have to accomplish their missions in the 21th century, how the modern warfare should adapt the new requirements of the completely changed political, military and tehnological conditions after the Cold War. The new challenges prompted the Department of Defence of the USA to work out a new concept as envisioned in the document Joint Vision 2020. Joint Vision 2020 guide the continuing transformation of America’s Armed Forces toward a goal to create a force that is dominant across the full spectrum of military operations and will meet all the political and military requirements by using high technology and adequate procedures.
