2 The recent revolutions in the Middle East brought attention to the use of online social networks for social movement mobilization. Using data from a survey of participants fielded at the U.S. Social Forum (USSF), this analysis provides a comparison of mobilization through online social networks with face-to–face and mediated communication channels. Specifically, the research examines online social networks in regard to offline protest activity and organizational membership diversity, or the number of types of organizations with which individuals are affiliated.
