Mature embryos of 5 Triticum aestivum and 5 T. durum cultivars formed embryogenic callus on two different media. Embryos were removed from surface sterilised seeds and placed with the scutellum upwards on a solid agar medium containing the inorganic components of Murashige & Skoog and 2 mg/L 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) or 1 mg/L naphtalenacetic acid (NAA). The developed calli and regenerated plants were maintained on 2,4-D or NAA free MS medium. Wheat plants can be regenerated via two different systems.
