The behavior a pneumatic tire is analyzed and simulated using a finite element model. We calculate the elastic deformations in the contact area of a pneumatic tire touching the street for different friction conditions between tire and street. The sim-ulations are compared with the experimental results. The comparison demonstrates that the overall deformation as well as the frictional behavior in the tire/ground contact area can be successfully simulated by finite element models. Key words: Intelligent tire, remote passive sensor, tire simulation, tire friction
