Abstract: A new and simple adaptive controller design procedure for high performance active magnetic bearings (AMB) is presented here. The structure of the dynamic feedback linearization (DFL) control method is embedded in adaptive controller architecture to ensure desired closed loop dynamics for AMB. The result is a straight forward procedure that enables the design of a robust stabilizing adaptive controller (RSAC) that forces the system dynamics to the specified desired dynamics, despite disturbances, modelling uncertainties, and variations in AMB dynamics.
