Problem-based learning (PBL) is a curriculum development and instructional system that simultaneously develops both problem solving strategies and learning by placing students in the active role of problem solvers confronted with real-world problems. To achieve its full power, PBL needs to be well designed and the 'facilitators ' employing this method need intensive preparation and a good command of PBL techniques.
