Motivation – We used a model of team collaboration as a framework to assist in the requirements stage of knowledge management (KM) and collaboration system development. Research approach – The model emphasizes the macrocognitive processes entailed in collaboration and includes major processes that underlie this type of communication. Data was analyzed for several 9/11 efforts and air-warfare scenarios. Findings/Design – Data captured from teams performing their tasks provided insight into areas where collaboration might be lacking. Research limitations/Implications – Findings suggest our approach can identify candidate KM and collaboration tools types.
