Flight Data Recorders produce data that is stored on an embedded memory device. A widespread problem with these devices is that the embedded memory device runs out of space. The concern of getting to this problematic situation causes the software of the flight data recorder to work in a careful manner- it constantly makes efforts to minimize the used memory space; otherwise a larger flight data recorder will be required that will also cost more money. In this paper we propose using a compressed file system with the aim of having a better cost-effective memory usage.
