This thesis is a discussion of the influences that have caused the drug Ecstasy to become so intertwined with today’s dance music. Issues such as the way various genres of music and the drug respond to each other, social and political factors and the history of the drug are all touched upon. Additionally, there is the response to the questionnaire that I put together, with the conclusions reached from it. The thesis is organised into eight chapters, some with subsections, each of which deals with a separate aspect of the study. The first and last chapters are included as an introduction and conclusion to the subject. The work covers the major influences over the past fifteen years that have resulted in the associations apparent today. However, due to the history of the drug section, some of the discussion dates back as far as 1912, when Ecstasy was first synthesised.
