Abstract In a cognitive radio (CR), the signal detection method is required for the recognition of the presence or absence of the primary signals. The purpose of this paper is to present the performance of signal detection based on cyclic spectrum estimation method. We evaluate theoretically the performance of statistical test for the presence of cyclostationarity in a noisy observation. The performance comparison between the cyclic spectrum estimation and energy detector is also presented
