Abstract- This paper describes a scheme to improve the overall performance of Phasor Measurement Units (PMU), such that the estimated phasors can be used for a wide range of applications in real-time. The main concern is the accu-racy and robustness of the phasor estimation outside steady-state, which is strongly influenced by the accuracy of the frequency estimation. The need to complement the phasor data with information about the phasor quality is also em-phasized
