Abstract. We describe a number of experiences we have made design-ing and implementing JacORB, an Object Request Broker (ORB), in Java. These are mainly consequences of choosing Java both as the im-plementation language for an ORB and as the target language for which this platform is designed. We focus on the degree of transparency possi-ble in a Java language mapping for IDL, on multithreading in the ORB core and generating CORBA type code information
