Developing for Mobile Platforms

Abstract. Developing for mobile devices such as cellphones and smart-phones has become a significant part of the software industry. And it seems, that there are as many different software platforms as there are different devices. This paper will introduce and compare the most im-portant platforms that are out there at the moment. Security issues such as protecting from malware, spyware or viruses will be discussed and remote manipulation will be introduced. It will also prensent the IDEs and SDKs that are needed for development on those platforms and will also provide code snippets to show what little mobile programs look like 1 History of Mobile Phones Bell Laboratories invented the key foundations of wireless mobile communica-tions with the concept of reusing the limited radio frequencies in a group of cells in a cellular network. Inside this network an unlimited numer of users can be served. Calls are systematically handed off from one cell to another. The first generation mobile phones (often referred to as 1G) were analog based o
