1 ADVANCED PLANNING SYSTEMS: MASTER PLANNING IN THE PROCESS INDUSTRY

Advanced planning systems (APS) has in recent years been put forward as means to enhance supply chain planning and efficiency. There are however few documented cases of companies using APS as standard software for support in their supply chain management. This paper provides a case study showing how APS is used on the tactical planning levels at a manufacturing company in the process industry. The case analysis focuses on the planning situation and perceived effects before and after three modules from i2 Technologies ’ planning suite were implemented; demand planner, supply chain planner, and demand fulfilment. Although the planning process is more streamlined and standardised the company has also experienced difficulties and obstacles when the software was implemented and when the new planning processes were established in the global organisation
