Abstract: Heterogeneous wireless networks will converge into a single network, making the majority of services independent of the access technologies. Thus, current and emerging wireless technologies will belong to a multi-tier system that will interoperate with different wired backbone networks and will have to provide Quality of Service (QoS) guarantees. The asymmetrical nature of the traffic, the handover support, the different access devices and the sparse standardization of QoS parameters are some of the known problems in heterogeneous wireless networks.
