Without the generosity and cooperation of many experts who shared their knowledge and skill with us during the past several years, we could not have produced this manual. The ACOG/CDC Maternal Mortality Study Group, formed in 1986, provided insight into the pregnancy mortality surveillance process from a variety of perspectives. Members reviewed the text and provided helpful comments on numerous drafts of the manual.
